Former baseball Swede Shawn Ravenscraft was the first pick of the Herkimer Trailbusters, a member of the four-team New York State League of Professional Baseball.
The League is a professional baseball league for first year players who have finished their collegiate eligibility. Players who perform well may advance to higher level independent leagues. This is the League's inaugural year. Games are played at Murnane Field in Utica, N.Y.
Ravenscraft, who will play third base for the Trailbusters, was a third baseman and a pitcher for the Swedes.
Ravenscraft, Muscatine, Iowa, was named KCAC and NAIA Region IV Player of the year. He also earned KCAC first-team honors as a pitcher and was named to the Rawlings-NAIA Gold Glove team for both the conference and region, which honors the conference's best defensive players. In addition, Ravenscraft earned NAIA Region IV first-team honors as a pitcher and third-baseman.
Ravenscraft ended the season ranked 2nd in the NAIA in hits allowed per game (4.55). He had a 3.03 ERA and eight wins on the season. Ravenscraft batted .419 with 20 RBIs.
