In Kearney, NE, at the Charlie Foster Classic hosted by the University of Nebraska-Kearney, sophomore Sarah Helm of Seneca, KS, met the NAIA “B” Standard, while junior Jessica Becker of Capitan, NM, and senior Nathan Whitcomb of Cottonwood Falls, KS, improved their qualifying marks for the NAIA National Indoor Track & Field Championships in Johnson City, TN.   Results
 
Helm qualified for the national meet with her time of 8.88 in the preliminaries of the 55m hurdles.  In the finals, Helm placed 7th with 9.53.  As for Becker, her season best throw of 43-10.50 in the shot put placed her 3rd and improved her qualifying mark for the national meet as well as her indoor school record.

Other women who had personal bests included:  freshman Stephanie Wilson of Pomona, KS, who was 5th in the 600 yd run with 1:35.94; junior Anna Miller of Blue Rapids, KS, who was 8th in the weight throw with 46-06.25; freshman Michelle Baltimore of Yuma, AZ, who was 10th in the shot put with 36-00.25.

For the men, Whitcomb placed 7th in the weight throw and improved his qualifying mark for the national meet with his toss of 50-08.75.  Another placer for the men included sophomore Nhial Malia of Highlands, TX, who placed 8th in the 1 mile run in 4:48.78. 

Other men who competed included:  sophomore James Bowden of Salina, KS, in the 600 yd run (1:22.33); sophomore Brian Chapman of Lincoln, NE, in the 55m hurdles (8.56); and junior Caleb Svaty of Kanopolis, KS, in the weight throw (45-06.50).

On February 3, 2007, the teams host the Kessinger Classic in Strobel-Gibson Gymnasium and Anderson Field.  Indoor events include:  weight throw (10:00 a.m.—women followed by men), high jump (10:00 a.m.—men followed by women), shot put (11:30 a.m.—women followed by men); and pole vault (11:30 a.m.—women followed by men).

The long jump (11:30 a.m.—women followed by men) and triple jump (11:30 a.m.—men followed by women) as well as the running events (12:30 p.m. rolling schedule start) will be held outside if the weather permits.
