The Bethany Swede Women's Soccer team pulled out a 1-0 victory at Bethel College Wednesday night, which raises their KCAC record to 3-2-1 on the year, and puts them on the brink of clinching a coveted spot in the KCAC post-season tournament.
Behind a first half goal from Kristen Palmer off a corner kick from Megan Zeigel, the Swede defense stiffened in the 2nd half, and was able to preserve the team's 4th shutout of the year, and more importantly their 5th win of the year. Coach Steve Moore states, "At halftime we talked about keeping the ball in front of us, playing good hard team defense from the front to the back, as well as staying disciplined on the defensive side, and we did that. It definitely wasn't our most pretty win of the year, but it was definitely our grittiest win, and easily our best collective defensive effort of the year."
The win, combined with losses by Southwestern, Ottawa, and St. Mary moves the Swedes up the KCAC ladder and into 3rd place. With conference matches against Sterling, Friends, and Kansas Wesleyan still remaining, the Swedes will control their own destiny and should stand a great chance to make the conference tournament, and also potentially host a 1st round matchup. "We've talked the last week about taking advantage of our next few conference matchups, and thus far we've done that. Our next two conference games are vital to us placing where we'd like to, and the fact that both of them are home matches makes it even better!" states Moore.
The Swedes are in action again Saturday at home over Homecoming Weekend, and kick off at 1:00pm against Sterling. Be sure to come out and catch some of the action!!
