Sedrick Childress, Vista, Calif., has signed a letter of intent to play men's basketball at Bethany College for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Childress, a six-foot-three guard, comes to Bethany from Vista High School, where he played basketball all four years. He earned first-team all-league, second-team all-CIF, and second-team all-county honors. He was the co-MVP his senior year. His senior year statistics include 20.9 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game. Childress shot 77% from the free throw line and 37% from three point range.
In addition to basketball, Childress also played football for one year and was a member of FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes).
"We are excited to have Sedrick Childress choose to continue his education and basketball career at Bethany College," says Head Men's Basketball Coach Clair Oleen. "Sedrick's coach at Vista High School is Charlie Mercado, a starter on our 2003 NAIA National Championship runner-up team. Sedrick helped lead Vista to the CIF Sectional Championship game this past season. Sedrick is a tall, strong, and physical guard who can really get to the rim and shoot the midrange and three-pointer as well. He is a tremendous rebounder and can really defend when he puts his nose to the grindstone, which he will do all the time at Bethany."
Childress is the son of Kelly Childress and plans to major in business management.
