After two conference wins the previous week, this past week the Swedes went 1-2 in conference, and dropped to the number two team overall in the KCAC. The Swedes lost against Kansas Wesleyan, and Bethel, before ending the week with a win against Ottawa.

On Oct. 22, the Swedes faced rival Kansas Wesleyan, who the Swedes had beaten earlier in the year. With the addition of Sarah Claborn (who was hurt earlier in the year), the Coyotes looked like a completely different team, sweeping the Swedes on their home court. On Oct. 24, the Swedes headed to Newton, Kan. to face Bethel. Again, the Swedes had beaten them earlier in the year, but fell short on Wednesday. On Saturday, the Swedes were determined to get a win, and that’s what they did; they defeated the Ottawa Braves in four games.

Although the two losses put the Swedes at 13-3 in conference, they still have a chance to be KCAC co-champions. As stated by junior, Emily Venrick, Longmont, Colorado, “it was really disappointing losing two critical conference games back to back, but I am optimistic that we can still tie for conference with two losses from Kansas Wesleyan.”

The Swedes look to rack up two final wins in conference this week, as the regular season comes to an end. On Tuesday, the Swedes play their last home game against Saint Mary, and then heading to Sterling on Thursday to take on the Warriors.

The KCAC post-season tournament will begin Nov. 6, with games being played at the higher-seeded schools. Games will continue Thurs., November 8 with the championship game Nov. 10. If the Swedes finish first or second in the KCAC, they will have a bye in the first round of play.
