The 2012 Bethany Athletic Association (BAA) Weekend will take place on September 22. The day starts with the athletic awards brunch at 11 a.m. to honor the 2012 Hall of Honor Inductees, Alumni Coach of the Year and BAA Award of Merit recipients. Registration by September 14 is required for the brunch. The cost is $10. Click here for a brochure.
The Bethany College Athletic Hall of Honor gives recognition to individuals whose performance on the athletic field during their time at Bethany was noteworthy and exemplary of the high standards for which Bethany College has historically been know. The 2012 recipients are Winfred Foster Banbury 1904, John Quincy Banbury 1904, Mike Zeyen '82, and Scott Gentine '90.
The Alumni Coach of the Year Award is presented to a Bethany College former student or graduate who has directed and coached a secondary or collegiate varsity sport team or teams to the level of performance which is recognized as outstanding by those persons associated with the varsity sport. The 2012 recipient is Bill Christner '82.
Each year the BAA gives recognition to an active member of the association that has demonstrated meritorious service to youth or their career. This year's recipients are Marvin Anderson '67 and Warren Olson '72, who is associate vice president for development at Bethany.
Following the awards brunch, baseball will hold an alumni game beginning at 1 p.m. For more information contact Head Coach Jeremy Cantrell.
At 3 p.m. there will be a campus tour. Meet at the Carl Aaron Swensson statue in the front of Presser Hall.
Beginning at 5:30 p.m. there will be a joint tailgate dinner with Kansas Wesleyan University to celebrate the 100th football game meeting. Brats and burgers will be served and special seating will be marked off for each side. The cost is $7 and no reservation is required. There will also be face painting and a balloon artist. Kids ages 4 to 12 are invited to the practice football field for a punt, pass, and kick contest to compete for fun prizes during the tailgate.
At 7 p.m. join us for the historic 100th game meeting between these two rival teams, the Swedes and the Coyotes. Following the football game, all are invited for a 5th Quarter Celebration at the Ol'Stuga in downtown Lindsborg.
