Longtime rivals Bethany College Swedes and Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes will face off for their 100th football game at 7 p.m. on Sept. 22, 2012, at Anderson Stadium in Lindsborg, Kan.

The very first game on Nov. 13, 1893, was also played in Lindsborg. The Coyotes won 38-0. In the history of the rivalry, Bethany leads the all-time series 55-39-5 and have outscored the Coyotes 1671-1314. KWU has been shut out 28 times while Bethany has only been shut out 13 times. The last tie was in 1959 (7-7). Bethany had won 15 consecutive games from 1987-2000 under Head Coach Ted Kessinger before the Coyotes snapped the streak on their home field in 2001. The win helped the Coyotes share the KCAC Championship title that year. Kansas Wesleyan holds the records for most points scored in a game when they defeated the Swedes 66-49 in 2010. The 49 points scored by the Swedes tied the second most points scored when Bethany defeated the Coyotes Halloween night in 1987.

Special 100th game festivities will start with a joint Bethany-KWU tailgate party beginning at 5:30 p.m. on the practice field directly across from Anderson Stadium. In case of rain the tailgate will be moved to Stroble-Gibson Gymnasium. Brats and burgers will be served. There will also be face painting and a balloon artist. Kids ages 4 to 12 are invited to participate in a punt, pass, and kick contest to compete for fun prizes during the tailgate. Sodexo, Bethany's food service provider, will sponsor the tailgate with a portion of the proceeds going to Child Advocacy and Parenting Services (CAPS). There will also be donation boxes at the tailgate and ticket entrance gates benefiting "Change for Kids," which promotes the well-being and educational opportunities of children. The St. John's Military Color Guard will present the colors prior to the game, and there will be a special coin toss with a commemorative coin marking the 100th game celebration. Coins will be sold at the game for $10 each while supplies last. At halftime, there will be a special presentation honoring the Bethany College Athletic Hall of Honor inductees, the Alumni Coach of the Year, and the Bethany Athletic Association Award of Merit honorees.

Following the football game, all are invited for a 5th Quarter Celebration at the Ol'Stuga in downtown Lindsborg. Cheer your favorite team to victory during this historic 100th rivalry game.
