In their first tournament of the fall season, the Bethany College golf team finished second in the Evangel Fall Invitational held Sept. 10-11 at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Mo.

The Swedes had the daily low and was the leader with 315 after round one. Bethany led again after scoring 301 in round two. Evangel, tournament host and tournament champion, fought back in round three with a 304. The Swedes had 316 in the final round.

Sophomore Ben Johnson, West Sussex, England, led Bethany, finishing in second place. Sophomore Jose Luis Lelo de Larrea, Queretaro, Mexico, finished third for Bethany. Also competing for the Swedes was Greg Miller (13), Tim Daniels (31) and Adam Weishaar (35).

Bethany Head Golf Coach Jon Daniels said his team needs work on their short game and spent the better part of the week attempting to get that in order.

"We are where we need to be at this time of the year and will improve as the season progresses," Daniels said. He added that his team is working hard and listening to the instruction.

The team continues their fall schedule Sept. 17-18 at the Ottawa University Tournament at Eagle Bend Golf Course. On Sept. 24 the team will play in the Hastings Tournament in Nebraska.
