The Bethany College volleyball Swedes went 1-2 last week with three matches on the road.

On Sept. 11 the team defeated McPherson College in four. The Bulldogs took the first set 25-22 before the Swedes won three straight, 25-22, 25-15 and 25-23.

Bethany's Maria Bujanda, a junior from Salina, Kan., had 12 kills while sophomore Alexa Gerber, Walsh, Colo., and senior Blake Hosey, Centennial, Colo., had nine apiece. Shelby Brown, a senior from Burwell, Neb., had 19 digs.

On Sept. 13 the Swedes lost 0-3 to Kansas Wesleyan University before losing 0-3 to Ottawa University on Sept. 15.

At KWU, Gerber tallied just seven kills while Brown had eight digs.

In Ottawa, the Braves took the first set 25-9. They went on to defeat Bethany 25-17 and 21-17.

Sophomore Lacie Shoemaker, Munden, Kan., had 10 kills while Brown chalked up 13 digs.

The Swedes, 3-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play, next host Friends University at 7 p.m. on Sept. 19. They will travel to Denver Sept. 21-22 for the Johnson and Wales Invitational. Bethany will first face Fort Hays State University on Friday night. On Saturday the Swedes will face tournament host JWU and sixth-ranked Embry-Ridle Aeronautical University.

Bethany will resume their conference schedule Sept. 24 at Tabor College.
