It was another second play finish for the Bethany College golf team last week at the Ottawa University Tournament held Sept. 17-18. Southwestern College took first with a two-round score of 583. The Swedes team score was 600.

After round one, Bethany was just three strokes off of the ‘Builders but weren't able to gain ground in round two, hitting a team score of 301 to Southwestern's 287.

Bethany Ben Johnson led the team tied for second place with 143, one under. Next for the Swedes was Greg Miller, tied for eighth alongside teammate Jose Luis Lelo de Larrea. Tied for 15th place was Lex Deal. Rounding out the Swedes' team was Matt O'Neill who tied for 29th.

Bethany Head Golf Coach Jon Daniels said his team played better golf last week and made improvements in some areas.

"We continue to work on putting which to date has been fair," Daniels added that Ben Johnson "had another fine tournament." Daniels hopes to have James Tisdale back in three to four weeks from surgery "which will be of help to us."

"I like the attitude of this team and their work ethic. It is a pleasure to work with this group of young men," Daniels said.

The Swedes travel to Hastings College Sept. 24 to play at Riverside and Lochland Golf Courses. On Oct. 8-9 the team will travel to Shawnee, Okla., to play in the Oklahoma Baptist Tournament.
