The Bethany College volleyball Swedes went 1-2 last week with a win over York College and losses to Tabor College and Bethel College.

On Sept. 24 the team travelled to Hillsboro to take on Tabor College. The Swedes lost in three (21-25, 11-25,7-25) to the Bluejays.

On Sept. 27 Bethany faced York College in Nebraska, winning in four. The Swedes fought hard for the win, taking the first two games 19-25. York fought back in game three, winning 30-28 before the Swedes captured the win with a 25-22 win in game four.

On the road again on Sept. 29, the Swedes lost in four (20-25, 15-25, 25-16, 19-25) to Bethel College in North Newton.

Nathalea Stephenson, head volleyball coach, said being on the road for seven-straight matches is starting to take its toll, along with being hit with illness. Bethany has another road game on Oct. 2 at University of Saint Mary.

Stephenson said despite their frustrations, her team continues to work hard and keep pushing themselves.

"We are working on trying to finish games and also to start ahead in sets instead of having to come from behind," Stephenson said.  Stephenson added that although blocking has come around this year, passing consistently needs to be better.

Bethany now is 2-5 in conference play and 4-12 overall. The team hosts Sterling College on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. before hitting the road again on Oct. 8 to Southwestern College in Winfield.
