The Bethany College women's soccer team didn't start out conference play last week as they had hoped they would, losing to University of Saint Mary and Sterling College.
On Oct. 3 the team opened their conference season with a 1-2 loss to the Spires of Saint Mary.
The Swedes were up 1-0 at the half before the Spires came back to score two goals in the second half.
Bethany had six total shots with four shots on goal. Keepers Jessica Shepherd and Jasmine Zaker allowed one goal each.
On Oct. 6 the team travelled to Sterling to take on the Warriors, losing 0-3. There the Swedes had 13 total shots and six shots on goal. Bethany's Shepherd allowed one goal in the first half and two in the second.
Bethany Head Women's Soccer Coach Sean McMannis said his team has put themselves in a hole, adding that a 0-2 start in conference is not the way to go.
"We need to find the back of the net again and clean up the costly mistakes," McMannis said. Wednesday, he said, "is very important to us." Wednesday, Oct. 10 is when the Swedes host Southwestern College at 5 p.m.
The team continues their conference schedule Oct. 13 with a road game versus top-25-ranked Kansas Wesleyan University at 11 a.m. in Salina.
