Michiel Van Den Bogaert, a sophomore from Haarlem, Netherlands, finished seventh overall at the International Tennis Association National Tournament held Oct. 11 to 14 in Mobile, Ala.

Van Den Bogaert qualified for the National Tournament on Sept. 21 after competing in the ITA Regional Tournament in Maize. He defeated Bethany teammate James Bragg in a 6-3, 7-5 decision in a high-quality final.

Van Den Bogaert was the first men's singles representative from the KCAC in the ITA National Tournament. Last year, Marclo Alecio and Kane Olsen became the first to represent the KCAC at ITA Nationals for doubles.

"Michiel had some very tough matches against the top players in the country and competed hard every match," says Head Tennis Coach Vic Bateman. "The weather was hot and humid, which created a slower type of game, and the more Michiel played the better he did adjusting to it.  We expect Michiel to continue his high level into the spring season and help a senior-heavy team to another strong season."
