The Bethany College women's basketball team got their season off on the right foot as they defeated the visiting Manhattan Christian College Crusaders on Saturday afternoon, October 27, 53-45.
The Swedes held a 25-17 advantage at the half and stayed even at 28-28 with the Crusaders in the second half for the victory. The Swedes had a very balanced scoring percentage as they shot 36 percent from the floor in the first half and 35 percent in the second half. The Crusaders were limited to just 32 percent in the first half but stepped it up to 53 percent in second half. Bethany shot 64 percent from the line in the contest, (16 of 25), while Manhattan shot just 39 percent, (5 of 13).
Manhattan had a balanced scoring total with nine players adding baskets in the Crusader cause. Brittany Shekdee led the way for Manhattan with nine points. Libby Wice pulled down 12 rebounds.
Bethany was led by Tanya Garner with 20 points followed by Heather Eddings 9, Kaitlyn Norton 7, Brittany Green 5, Tasha Wagoner 5, Kendra Austin 4, Nicole Felker 2, and Clarissa Garcia 1. Tasha Wagoner led the way with six rebounds and Tanya Garner had 5 boards.
The Swedes will host Mid America Christian on Tuesday, October 30, and then will travel to the Kansas City metro area for the Mid America Nazarene University Classic on Friday and Saturday, November 2-3. The Swedes will play Benedictine College on Friday, November 2 at 2 p.m. and then will play the host team on Saturday afternoon, November 3 at 3 p.m.
