The Bethany College men's soccer team clinched a playoff position on Senior Night, Saturday, October 27, with a 2-1 victory over Bethel College. The Swedes are 4-3-1 in the KCAC and 4-10-1 overall.
The Swedes were in control the whole game while opening the scoring from senior Ilija Soc's head from a cross sent in by senior Bruce Rowe. This was followed by freshman Trevor Kistler scoring the final goal for the Swedes on a through ball from sophomore Lucas Procopio. Bethany scored both of their goals in the first period. Illja Soc scored with 7:53 on the clock and Trevor Kistler scored at the 34:55 mark. Bethel's only goal occurred in the second period when Nestor Reyes scored at the 89:36 mark.
Kayo Vaz had six saves in goal for the Swedes and Casey Budd followed suit with six saves for Bethel. Both goalkeepers played the entire contest.
Bethany Coach Kevin Megli was very excited with his team's effort and said, "I am very proud of the guys! This is going to be a great memory for the seniors to take with them. I could not ask for a better gift on an emotional night."
The Swedes close out the regular season with a road contest at Ottawa University on Tuesday, October 30.
Post-season play begins either Friday, Nov. 2 or Saturday, Nov. 3 at the homesite of the higher seed.
