Competing in the first meet after the Christmas break, three athletes improved two school records and two NAIA "A" Standards at the Ward Haylett Invitational hosted by Doane College in Crete, NE, on January 12, 2008.  Results
 
Junior Jessica Becker of Capitan, NM, improved her school record and qualifying mark in the shot put with her 1st place throw of 48-04.50, while freshman Danielle Garman of Lincoln, KS, improved her school record in the heptathlon with a score of 3063. 
 
Garman's performance in the five events that make up the heptathlon were highlighted by three personal records in the long jump (16-03.50), high jump (4-11), and 55m hurdles (9.21) as well as an easy win in the 800m run (2:33.88).  The shot put (31-5.05) is the other event in the heptathlon.
 
Other top performances for the women were:  sophomore Michelle Baltimore of Yuma, AZ, who was 4th in the weight throw (45-07.00); Becker who was 2nd in the weight throw (48-02.00); junior Sarah Helm of Seneca, KS, who was 3rd in the 55m hurdles (9:08); senior Anna Miler of Blue Rapids, KS, who was 3rd in the weight throw (46-5.00); and sophomore Trina Scholl who was 3rd in the shot put (39-01.00).
 
For the men, senior Nathan Whitcomb of Cottonwood Falls, KS, improved his qualifying mark in the weight throw with his 2nd place throw of 53-02.00.  Meanwhile, senior Caleb Svaty of Kanopolis, KS, placed 4th in the event with 51-08.00.
 
The next meet is on January 19, 2008, at the Missouri Valley Indoor Meet in Marshall, MO.
