At the 2008 Bethany Indoor Last Chance Meet at Stroble-Gibson Gymnasium on February 23, 2008, junior Jessica Becker of Capitan, NM, and senior Nathan Whitcomb of Cottonwood Falls, KS, each improved their school records in their respective events and improved their qualifying marks for the NAIA National Indoor Track & Field Championships that will be held in Johnson City, TN, on March 6-8.

In the women's shot put, Becker's school record throw won the event with 50-08.00 and most likely kept her ranked 2nd in the nation.  She did not participate in the indoor weight at the meet, but is currently ranked in the top seven nationally.

Senior Anna Miller of Blue Rapids, KS, improved her qualifying mark in the indoor weight as she took 1st with a throw of 51-05.50, which should move her up to 5th in the nation; Miller will also be competing in the shot put at the national meet.  Runner-up in the indoor weight, sophomore Michelle Baltimore of Yuma, AZ, threw 46-03.25; she will also be competing at the national meet.

The other event winner for the women was junior Sarah Helm who won the pole vault in her first collegiate meet by clearing 7-0; she will be competing in the 60m hurdles at the national meet.

For the men, Whitcomb's school record throw of 59-11.75 in the indoor weight could have him ranked 2nd in the nation after this weekend.  Runner-up in the event, senior Caleb Svaty of Kanopolis, KS, threw 55-02.00; he is currently ranked 5th in the nation.

The other runner-up finish was by freshman Jesse Muntz of Dexter, KS, who cleared 5-10.00 in the high jump.

Because of the colder weather conditions, the other field events and the running events that were scheduled to be outside at the Anderson Track & Field Complex were not held.  The next meet for the Swedes is the national meet.
