The Bethany College wrestling team is set to assist the Kansas Premier Wrestling Club with their upcoming community events.
The Kansas Premier Wrestling Club (KPWC) is a non-profit organization to help promote and support wrestling in south-central Kansas. KPWC offers high level training opportunities for wrestlers of all ages, and is also the competition club for the Bethany College wrestlers.
On Saturday, October 19, KPWC is hosting their inaugural golf tournament to help support wrestling in the area, in which the Swedes will help work the event. The tournament, taking place at the Salina Municipal Golf Course, is a four-man "best ball" format, and each group will be accompanied by a Swedes wrestling team member.
The event schedule for the golf tournament is as follows:
12 p.m.: Check-In/Social/Lunch
1 p.m.: Shotgun Tee Off
4 p.m.: Silent Auction
5 p.m.: Dinner Reception
On Thursday, November 14, and Saturday, November 16, the KPWC is hosting a free clinic from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The clinic, encompassing all ages, will allow participants the opportunity to learn about wrestling, and the Swedes wrestlers will assist with the event. The clinic will take place at Bethany College, and clinic participants will wrestle on the Bethany College wrestling mats.
"The KPWC has already given members of Bethany wrestling the opportunity to compete in freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling at the national level," said Head Coach Jacob Marrs. "The club's goal is to have a competitor reach the US World Team Qualifier this coming June. It also provides team members the opportunity to serve all ages of wrestling through coaching and mentoring endeavors. The KPWC's formation offers great support to the disciplines of the mixed martial arts, youth, Bethany wrestling, Bethany College and the community as a whole."
Registration information for the golf tournament can be found on the Bethany Swedes Wrestling Facebook Page. For clinic registration, participants can contact Head Coach Jacob Marrs at firstname.lastname@example.org, Assistant Coach Cody Garcia at email@example.com, or call Coach Marrs and Coach Garcia at (785) 227-3380, ext. 8299.
In addition to hosting free clinics for youth, the KPWC has established a spring and summer training site for the international styles of freestyle and Greco. The club also offers technique sessions at alternative locations and puts on commuter camps for clubs throughout Kansas. The club has competed on the national stage, in which two competitors represented the KPWC at the US Open senior division, a world team qualifier.
The Bethany wrestling team opens their season on Sunday, November 3, at the Oklahoma City University Open.
