Even though the 2008 Kansas Relays in Lawrence, KS, on April 16-19, was filled with two gloomy days of weather, junior Jessica Becker of Capitan, NM, improved her qualifying mark and school record in the shot put, while sophomore Amber Dunham of Independence, KS, qualified for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships in Edwardsville, IL, by meeting the "A" Standard in the same event for the first time this season.

Becker finished 5th overall with a throw of 49-05.50, improving her school record for the third time this season.  Becker, the 2008 NAIA Indoor National Champion in the shot put, is currently ranked first in the nation for the outdoor national championships.

Meanwhile, Dunham's throw of 43-07.25 placed her 17th at the meet, but should have her nationally ranked in the top 10 for the NAIA.  She was less than a foot away from a personal best throw.

The women's 1600m sprint medley relay team set the school record with 4:34.10.  Members of the team included:  junior Sarah Helm of Seneca, KS, who ran 200m; junior RaChelle Gaylord of Easton, MO, who ran 200m; sophomore Stephanie Wilson of Pomona, KS, who ran 400m, and freshman Danielle Garman of Lincoln, KS, who ran 800m.  The women also competed in 4 x 400m relay (4:18.44).

For the men, relay teams competed in the 4 x 200m relay (1:34.42), the distance medley relay (11:27.35), the 4 x 400m relay (3:32.52), the 1600m sprint medley relay (3:43.43), and the 4 x 800m relay (8:56.44).

Other national rankings for the outdoor national championships include:  Baltimore who is 9th in the discus with 138-10.00; Becker who is 12th in the discus with 137-06.00; Garman who is 8th in the heptathlon with 4115 points; Miller who is 4th in the hammer with 160-04.00; and Stieben who is 12th in the javelin with 130-10.00.
