Incoming freshmen Rhys Pihl will play in the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association All-Star game scheduled for Wednesday August 6 at Washburn University in Topeka.

Pihl, a 5'8 guard from Lindsborg, was one of 24 female athletes selected to play in this prestigious event.  According to Bethany coach Greg Mittelsteadt, her selection is quite an honor.

"The organizers always do a good job of getting the top senior players from Kansas to play in this event, so its quite an honor for Rhys.  It definitely identifies her as one of the best players in the Class of 2008.  We are certainly proud of this accomplishment and excited to have a player of her caliber coming into our program."

Tipoff is set for 6:00 PM and Pihl will play for the South team coached by  Stana Jefferson of Andover Central.

Pihl, is the daughter of  Roger and Jill Pihl of Lindsborg and the granddaughter of the late George Stephens, former Bethany College men's basketball coach and member of the Bethany Athletic Hall of Fame.  She received numerous awards following a very successful career at Smokey Valley High School, including being named as the Hutch News Class 4A Player of the Year and also named to the KBCA All-State team.
