WICHITA, Kan. – The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference announced the Men's Tennis players of the Week award. Bethany's Juan Mateus claimed the award for the first time this year after an outstanding performance in the first two conference matchups of the season. 

Mateus helped Bethany to improve to 5-2 on the season with two 9-0 wins over Ottawa and Bethel. Matues and his partner took the No. one doubles point by score of 8-2. He took his first singles set 6-2 and then really caught fire. For the remainder of the week Mateus did not surrender a point in any set. He finished the No. two single set winning 6-0. Then, against Bethel, he captured the No. one doubles point 8-0, before taking No. two singles 6-0, 6-0.

"Juan came to Bethany as a very solid player. He has developed into a world class player over the last few years. His work ethic is second to none and he is a great leader for all of his teammates," said head coach Tony Swiantek.

With the dominate wins last week, Mateus improved to 7-0 in singles competitions. He is also 5-2 in doubles matchups.
