SALINA, Kan. – The Swedes Golf teams were back in action this week at the Kansas Wesleyan Invitational on Monday, October 3 and Tuesday, October 4. The tournament took place at the Salina Country Club in Salina. In this tournament the Swedes Men landed in fourth place at the conclusion of the tournament and the women ended up tied for third.

On the women's side junior, Aspen Bryant was the individual winner shooting a 165 (+21) and edging out the two players behind her by just one stroke. Junior, Lexi Pauls also competed and landed in the top 10 at the end of the tournament. Pauls shot a 176 (+32) over two days and her top 10 effort was greatly aided by her personal best round of 83 she shot on Tuesday.

The Swedes women's squad tied for third place of five teams with KCAC competitor Ottawa University shooting an 801 (+225) over the two days. Bethany landed ahead of Sterling College and fell to Kansas Wesleyan.

Head Coach Dalton Stevens is proud of his teams' performances. "On the women's side we were off to a rough start having Emily Sutton withdraw early in round 1. Lexi Pauls shot her career low tournament round of 83 which we are very excited to see her to continue to improve. Aspen Bryant won her second straight tournament to start her junior campaign. She is fun to watch," he said.

The men landed behind only one conference school in their fourth place finish this week, Sterling College. The Swedes shot a 596 (+36) over the course of the two days. Leading the team was junior, Josh Meeks. Meeks shot a 144 (+4) over the two days and tied for sixth in the tournament. A couple strokes behind him was sophomore, Jordan Della Guistina who shot a 150 (+10) and freshman, Meliton Moreno, who shot a 151 (+11).

"I was very pleased with how we bounced back in the second round at the KWU Invite," Coach Stevens said. "We were one of if not the only school to have five scores in the 70's the first day, just nothing low enough to really boost the team score. We had some individual rounds that I was pleased with. Josh Meeks continues to lead us on the men's side with another top five performance. He finished his last 11 holes the first day 4 under to shoot +2. The second day we put some scores together to shoot 294 which I was pleased with. Four of our top five scores were all under 76 the second day so that was a positive to take away from the tournament. We finished behind two of the best junior college schools in the state. Fourth out of 14 is some momentum that we will take into next tournament at our home course (Turkey Creek)."

The Swedes men's and women's golf teams are in action again on Monday, October 10 and Tuesday October 11 at the Central Kansas Invitational. This tournament will be hosted by Central Christian College and take place on the Swedes' home course; Turkey Creek Golf Course in McPherson.

Coach Stevens is ready to be back playing a tournament at home, "We'd love to have some Bethany Support out at Turkey Creek in McPherson for Central Christian's Invite this coming Monday and Tuesday!"
