MUSKOGEE, Okla. – The Swedes baseball team picked up a midweek road split with Bacone College. After falling in the first game 5-2, the Swedes rebounded to win a 2-1 nail-biter over the Warriors. With this double header the Swedes are now 20-27 on the season.

Game One –

The Warriors struck first in this one when a walk and homerun led to two runs in the bottom of the first inning The Swedes answered with a run of their own in the top of the fourth inning. Kyle Silva, senior infielder, singled up the middle then stole his way over to third base. This set up Taylor Nielson, senior outfielder, for a bunt single that scored Silva.

However, Bacone would answer in the bottom half of the inning, adding two runs to their total. The Warriors plated one more run in the bottom of the fifth inning to bring their total to five. The Swedes would remain scoreless until Robert Eakin, senior outfielder, blasted a homerun over left-center field in the top of the seventh inning. Unfortunately, that was all Bethany had in them in game one.

Donald Brais, senior pitcher, suffered the loss for the team. The right-hander threw four complete innings allowing four runs, three earned on two hits.

Nielson and Silva each posted two hits in the game. Nielson had a double in the second inning in addition to his RBI bunt single in the fourth.

Game Two –

The teams had a pitching and defensive battle going in game two with neither team able to alight their offense. Bethany got on the board first in the top of the second inning. Nielson walked his way onto the base paths and moved over into scoring position with the help of Edgar Vela's, junior infielder, sacrifice bunt. Nielson then scored on an Apdiel Vazquez, junior catcher, single to center.

In the top of the third, Bernardo Bonifacio, senior outfielder, singled down the left field line to start things off for the Swedes. He moved to second on a ground ball by Silva and over to third on a Dalton Bidon, junior infielder, single up the middle. Bonifacio was then able to score on a sacrifice fly ball to center field by Daniel Blanco-Perez, senior utility.

The Warriors plated their first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth. They then had runners on second and third before the Swedes shut them down, getting out of the inning. Bethany kept Bacone silenced for the rest of the game rebounding to take the second contest of the day.

Chris Reardon, junior pitcher, earned the win allowing just one run on one hit in five complete innings of work. As a whole, the Swedes pitching staff allowed just two hits during the second contest. Bidon, Bonifacio, and Vazquez all notched hits for the Swedes in game two with Bonifacio adding a run to his line, and Vazquez an RBI to his.
