The women's soccer team swept their games this past week, giving them a six-game winning streak. The squad traveled to Joplin, MO and then continued on to Arkansas in an eventful weekend of soccer.
The Swedes battled Ozark Christian College at their stop in Missouri. Bethany came out hot, scoring twice within the first twenty minutes of play. Freshman Mychelle Mendez broke the 0-0 tie with a goal off an assist from senior Megan Ziegel. Freshman Tara Rose added an unassisted goal for the Swedes before scoring again in the first half off a pass from junior Jennifer Lenz. Rose would strike once again in the second half from a second assist by Ziegel, making the score 4-0. Freshman Megan Xavier would score just over fifteen minutes into the half off yet another assist from Ziegel. The Swedes closed out the game with an unassisted goal from junior Maggie Bogan, giving them a solid 6-0 victory.
Looking to keep their momentum from their shutout in Missouri, Bethany did just that against Central Baptist College in Arkansas. Bethany scored four times in the first half, starting with a solid offensive attack and a goal in the seventh minute by freshman Stacey Pelayo off a pass from Rose. Xavier turned around and scored two goals within a minute of each other, both off assists from Ziegel and junior Carla Toler. Lenz added another goal for the Swedes, assisted by Pelayo, just before halftime. The Swede defense remained strong in the second half, giving Bethany the 4-0 shutout.
The Swedes will begin their conference scheduled this week with a home game against Southwestern College on Saturday, October 4th at 1 P.M. The squad is now 7-1 overall.
