The Swede volleyball team continued their conference schedule this past week by hosting the University of St. Mary on Tuesday and Southwestern College on Thursday before traveling to McPherson College Saturday afternoon.  Bethany went 3-0 on the week, improving to a second place tie in the KCAC with Bethel College.

Bethany came out firing Tuesday night against the Spires, winning the match 25-20, 19-25, 27-25, and 25-20.  Defense was key for the Swedes in the victory as junior Katy Troutman led with 18 digs and senior Lisa Runnebaum added 15.  Seniors Stephanie Adamson and Brittany Westenfelder also came up huge in the back row with 14 and 11 digs, respectively.  Runnebaum pounded down 23 kills while Adamson and juniors Kristi Parker and Carrie DeRoo each had seven.

The Swedes looked to keep their momentum rolling in the week as they took on Southwestern Thursday night.  Bethany did just that as they trounced the Moundbuolders 25-14, 25-10, and 25-14.  Troutman led the Swede defense with 12 digs, closely followed by Runnebaum, who had eight.  Adamson and junior Megan Wendell both kept the Bethany defense tight with six digs each.  The Swede offense was headed by Runnebaum as she had 10 demanding kills.  Bethany spread their offensive attack well as seniors Angelisa Sexson, Emily Venrick, Adamson, and Wendell all added five kills.

Looking to cap off the week against McPherson College Saturday afternoon, the Swedes came out with adrenaline running high.  After losing game one, Bethany bounced back strong and the ball would once again fall the Swedes' way as they beat the Bulldogs 19-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-23.  The Bethany defense came up with huge defensive stops as Runnebaum had two solo blocks and Parker and Adamson each had one while Parker and sophomore Anna Alexis each had an assisted block.  The Swedes fought off hard McPherson hits as Runnebaum had 17 digs, closely followed by Adamson with 11.  Runnebaum led the Bethany offense with 20 kills as Parker had a strong 10.

Bethany looks to continue their hot streak as they host rival Kansas Wesleyan University Tuesday at 7 p.m. before traveling to Wichita to battle number one KCAC Friends University 7 p.m. Thursday evening.  The Swedes are now 7-4 overall and 6-1 in the KCAC.
