MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Swedes women's soccer team shut out Manhattan Christian last night 8-0. Six Swedes scored goals in this contest.

Bethany came out strong, Shannon Markey, senior defender, scored in the first minute and a half of the game. Carissa Zubro, sophomore midfielder, then netted her first goal of the game a minute later.

The Swedes cooled off for a bit before Haylee Harris, sophomore midfielder, scored off of a pass from Ciara Dawson, senior forward in the 11th minute. Zubro then scored her second goal of the game

Kastel Heinold, freshman forward, then netted back to back goals. Her first was assisted by Markey. Her second, Bethany Middleton, junior midfielder, got in on.

In the second half the Swedes scored just two goals. In the 61st minute Francesca Duckworth, sophomore forward, scored from a pass off the foot of Jenna Arnold, junior defender. Duckworth then assisted Arnold in her own goal four minutes later.

The Details . . .

Destinee Wells, sophomore keeper, and Jordan Wells, freshman keeper, split time in the goal. J. Wells nabbed two saves and they allowed zero goals between the two of them. As a team, the Swedes outshot MCC 27-2.

"I'm very proud of the ladies tonight. We played well and it was great to see our offense come alive early in the game," Swedes head coach, Justin Olson said. "We did a great job of moving the ball and played with confidence for 90 minutes. It's been a long preseason and it's great to see the ladies hard work pay off. We will enjoy this one and then begin our preparations for a tough set of games in Denver against Johnson and Wales next weekend."

Up Next . . .

The Swedes take ten days off before making the trip to Denver, Colo. to take on Johnson & Wales. Bethany will play JWU twice in a weekend with the first contest taking place on Friday, September 15 at 2 p.m.
