The Bethany College women's soccer Swedes found their rhythm once again this past week. The team traveled to Central Christian College on Monday before a long road trip to the University of Saint Mary on Friday. The Swedes ended the week by traveling to Sterling College on Saturday.
Bethany got on the board first when they battled Central Christian on Monday as junior Carla Toler scored off an assist from junior Ashli Saldibar. The Swedes would extend their lead early in the second half as freshman Mychele Mendez found the net. However, Central Christian was not done as they quickly answered back just over a minute later. They also had a late surge, tying the game with less than a minute left to play. The Swedes would go on to tie Central Christian 2-2.
Looking to grab another conference "W," the Swedes came out determined to do just that against the Spires Friday afternoon. Bethany scored within the first 20 minutes of play as Toler had a goal off an assist from senior Megan Zeigel. Less than ten minutes later, the Swedes scored again as freshman Megan Xavier scored off assists from Toler and Zeigel. After a 2-1 halftime lead, Bethany tacked on another goal as Mendez scored within the first ten minutes of the second half. The Swedes went on to grab a 3-1 victory.
Bethany came out strong Saturday against Sterling as junior Kristin Palmer scored less than three minutes into the game off a Zeigel assist. Bethany would add two more goals in the first half as Toler found the net and freshman Stacey Pelayo scored off yet another Zeigel assist. The Warriors scored late in the first half and again late in the second, but the Swedes held on for the 3-2 win.
The soccer Swedes return home to host Bethel College on Wednesday, October 22nd before battling Kansas Wesleyan University on Saturday, October 25th on their home turf. Game times are set for 5:00 and 6:30 p.m., respectively.
