The Bethany College women's basketball team closed out their regular season this past week.  The squad traveled to Southwestern College on Thursday before hosting Tabor College Saturday evening.

The Moundbuilders came out and got a quick lead on the Swedes and never turned back.  Down by 16 at halftime, Bethany was unable to control the Southwestern offense as they lost 66-42.  Freshman Rhys Pihl led the Swedes with 11 points, followed by senior Roni Whitman and sophomore Claire Cole, who each had six.  Senior Megan Zeigel tallied three steals.  R. Pihl also added nine rebounds and two steals on the night.

Aiming to turn things around on senior night and the last regular season game of the year, the Swedes did just that.  Going into halftime with an eight point lead, Tabor started a comeback in the second half.  However, the Swedes hit some key shots and came up with several defensive stops to give them a 61-57 win.  R. Pihl again led the Bethany offense with 14 points.  Whitman and junior Jade Pihl each scored 13 points.  Senior Shalice Tommerup swatted shots left and right, calculating five blocks while Whitman came up with four steals.  R. Pihl grabbed an impressive 12 rebounds and J. Pihl tacked on five assists.

Bethany College ends the regular season at seventh place in the KCAC with a 7-11 record.  The Swedes will host number ten McPherson College for play-in game number two on Monday, February 23rd, at 7:00 pm.  The squad is 12-16 overall.
