The Bethany College baseball team headed to Anderson Field this past weekend.  The squad hosted a tournament on Friday and Saturday before playing a double header on Sunday.

Bethany College hosted a two-day event, playing both Dakota Wesleyan University and Peru State College.  The Swedes kicked off Friday afternoon with a seven inning game against DWU.  After Dakota Wesleyan jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, the game was eventually tied at three going into the bottom of the seventh.  After back-to-back hits, senior Craig Barnes stepped to the plate.  Barnes laid a bunt down between pitcher and third base, and the ball squeezed by both DWU fielders, scoring the winning run and giving the Swedes a 4-3 victory.  Junior Daryl Schlepp had a 2-for-3 performance.  Seniors Craig Barnes and Andrew Vancil and juniors Kofi Osei-Aning, Wes Walker, Jimmy Smith, Braden Friesz, and Aaron Larsen all had one hit,  Larsen tacked on two RBI's while Smith and Barnes each had one.  Sophomore Kevin Krattenmaker got the start, and senior Rodney McFarlane came in as relief.
Bethany hit the dirt Saturday afternoon against Peru State College.  In an offensive dual, Bethany fell to Peru State 10-7.  Schlepp had a solid 4-for-4 performance, and Osei-Aning, Walker, and Smith all contributed two hits.  Senior Hop Sullivan, Friesz, and Larsen each had one.  Larsen and Osei-Aning both had two RBI's.  Barnes, Sullivan, and Friesz all added one RBI.  Junior Ryan Mashinter got the start, facing 27 batters and striking out two.  Junior Brian Wojtkiewicz, McFarlane, junior Josue Iniguez, and senior Cameron Rittinger all came in as relief.

The Swedes then hosted a doubleheader against Briar Cliff University on Sunday.  The Swedes had a 1-0 lead in the game after Barnes scored of a ball hit by senior Andrew Vancil, forcing a throwing by BCU.  Briar Cliff made a comeback in the fifth inning, scoring two runs off of two infield hits.  Despite some hits late in the game, the Swedes were unable to plate a run and lost 2-1.  Larsen and Osei-Aning both chalked up two hits.  Walker and Barnes each had one hit.  Vancil had the lone RBI for the Swedes.  Sophomore T.D. Huett got the start for the Swedes, facing 19 batters and striking out three.  Iniguez came in as relief and shut down Briar Cliff, striking out one.

Ready to turn things around in game two, Bethany was able to do just that.  The Swede jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but BCU tied the game.  The Swedes made a late surge and pushed some runs across as Schlepp had a two-RBI single.  Bethany went on to win the game 4-2.  Friesz led the Bethany offense with two hits, followed by Vancil, Larsen, Schlepp, and Barnes with one.  Friesz and Larsen each had RBI's along with Schlepp's two.  Junior Brian Guyett got the start and win for the Swedes, facing 23 batters and striking out eight.

Bethany heads to Oklahoma on Friday, February 27th for a nine inning game against Oklahoma City University.  Game time is set for 7:00 PM.  The Swedes are now 10-6 on the season.
