The Bethany College women's basketball team competed in KCAC post-season action this past week.  The Swedes hosted McPherson College for play-in game one on Monday before heading to nationally ranked Kansas Wesleyan University on Thursday.

Bethany jumped out to a quick lead against McPherson.  Up by nine at halftime, the Bulldogs pulled close in the second half, but were unable to catch up to the Swedes as they won 66-56.  Senior Roni Whitman had a game-high 17 points.  She was followed by senior RaChelle Gaylord with 12, freshman Rhys Pihl with 11, and senior Nancy Castro and junior Jade Pihl who each had 10.  R. Pihl grabbed an impressive 10 rebounds and tallied six assists.  Whitman, Gaylord, and senior Megan Zeigel played strong defense as they all had two steals apiece.

Hoping to keep their winning streak alive, the Swedes headed to the new Coyote gym on the campus of Kansas Wesleyan.  Bethany had an early lead, but saw it slip away late in the first half as the Coyote shooting found its rhythm.  Kansas Wesleyan went into halftime up by eight and never looked back as they defeated Bethany 61-45, ending the Swedes' 2009 season.  Gaylord had an impressive performance to end her collegiate career as she had a game-high 17 points along with six rebounds and two steals.  R. Pihl added 10 points and two assists.  Zeigel and J. Pihl also contributed two steals each.

Bethany ended their season with a seventh place KCAC finish with a 7-11 conference record.  The Swedes were 13-17 overall.
