Claire Cole, RaChelle Gaylord, Jade Pihl, and Megan Zeigel have been named Daktronics-NAIA Women's Basketball Scholar-Athletes for 2008-2009.
Cole is a junior from Kensington, Kan. In 2008, she was named most improved player by her teammates. This is Cole's first year receiving Scholar-Athlete honors.
Gaylord is a senior from Easton, Mo. She was one of the team captains for the Swedes this season. In addition, Gaylord earned the Teammate Award from the Bethany squad in 2008. This is her first Scholar-Athlete award.
J. Pihl is a junior from Lindsborg, Kan. The Scholar-Athlete honors are the first of her career as well.
Zeigel is a senior from Carbondale, Colo. This is the third time she garners Scholar-Athlete honors as Zeigel was awarded it two previous times in her collegiate career as a member of the women's soccer team.
In order to be a recipient of the Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete award, the student-athlete must be nominated by the head coach, have achieved junior academic status, and have a grade point average (GPA) of a 3.5-4.0.
For 2009, the NAIA awarded 204 Division II women's basketball student-athletes. The KCAC had 20 of those women.
