The Bethany College baseball team made their way to the dugout once again this past week.  The Swedes hosted York College on Monday before battling Tabor College in a Friday-Saturday series for their second conference series.
After four tough conference losses to Sterling last week, Bethany hoped to get back on track as they faced off against York Monday afternoon.  However, after being down 5-1 going into the seventh inning, the York bats proved too strong for the Swedes as they scored nine runs and defeated Bethany 14-1 in a seventh inning run rule.  Bethany was outhit 19 to two.

Bethany took off to Tabor College on Friday for the first doubleheader of the series.  Up 6-1 in the sixth inning, the Blue Jays found their swing as they scored five runs before adding another in the seventh to top Bethany 7-6.

The Swedes came out hot in game two, scoring three runs in the first inning and three more in the fourth.  However, Tabor answered back with four two-run innings,8-6  winning as they swept the Swedes on day one.

The Bethany squad was determined to find their stride as Tabor headed to Anderson field.  A late seventh inning comeback marked the Swedes' first conference victory as senior Andrew Vancil hit a walk off home run and edged Tabor 4-3.
Bethany again found themselves down in the bottom of the seventh inning in game two.  However, the squad proved their resilience as they plated another two runs off junior Darrin Biegert's walk off base hit to grab a close 7-6 win.  The Swedes won the hitting dual as they had 11 hits to Tabor's ten, proving to make the difference in the game.

In the series, the Swedes found their long ball stroke.  Vancil hit three home runs while senior Hop Sullivan and juniors Jimmy Smith and Kofi Osei-Aning all had one.

The Swedes continue their conference schedule this coming week as they are set to battle rival Kansas Wesleyan University.  Bethany travels to Dean Evans Stadium in Salina on Thursday, March 26th before returning home on Saturday, March 28th to go head-to-head with the Coyotes in the series-ending 1:00 pm doubleheader.  The squad is now 2-6 in the KCAC and 12-17 overall.
