The Bethany College baseball team continued their conference schedule this past week. The Swedes battled cross-town rival Kansas Wesleyan University on Thursday before part two of the series on Saturday was snowed out.
Bethany jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in game one. Despite the threatening KWU offense, the Swedes came out with a 5-2 victory. Bethany had only four hits as senior Hop Sullivan and juniors Jimmy Smith, Daryl Schlepp, and Kofi Osei-Aning accounted for the four. Junior Braden Friesz, Smith, Craig, and Sullivan all had an RBI in the dual. Junior Brian Guyett started for the Swedes, striking out three as senior Cameron Rittinger came in as relief and recorded the save.
The Coyote offense heated up in game two of the series and proved too much for Bethany as they fell 8-1. The Swedes only had three hits, two of them coming from Walker. Friesz had the only RBI of the game. Sophomore T.D. Huett started for Bethany as senior Rodney McFarlane and juniors Aaron Larsen and Brian Wojtkiewicz came in as relief.
The Swedes head to Emporia State University on Wednesday, April 3rd before traveling to the University of St. Mary on Friday, April 3rd for a 1:00 pm doubleheader. The squad will then turn around and host USM on Saturday, April 4th for part two of the series. Bethany is now 3-7 in the KCAC and 13-18 overall.
