Two top 10 finishes and one personal best were the highlights at the annual KU Relays last weekend.
Senior Jessica Becker placed third in the shot put with a 14.92m (48' 11 1/2") throw and tossed the discus 42.26m (138' 8") to take eighth to lead the Swede placings. Becker also competed in the hammer throw (41.60m or 136'6").
Freshman Shane Valdez took time off her collegiate best in the 100m hurdles by running a 16.13 in the preliminaries. Facing tough competition, she did not advance to the finals.
Also competing at the relays were the following: Stephanie Wilson in the 800m (2:30.74), Mollie Dahl in the shot put (no mark), Hannah Hemberger in the javelin (no mark), and the women's 4 x 400 relay (Courtney Gallardo, Wilson, Molly McElgunn, Jaci Kepler (4:21.74). On the men's side, Josh Snider (2:02.87) and Hugo Escobar (2:03.06) raced in the 800m, Jesse Muntz competed in the high hurdles (16.92), and the men's 4 x 400 relay of Trey Beachum, James Bowden, Kenneth Whitacre, and Ty Bieker ran a 3:30.26.
The Swedes' next competition will be Saturday, April 25 at the Bethel College Invitational.
