On June 4, Bethany College installed a new Daktronics combination scoreboard at Lindstrom Field in Anderson Stadium. The new scoreboard will be used during football games, men's and women's soccer games, and outdoor track & field meets held in the stadium.
Leading the fundraising drive were four former football players, two coaches and the parents of a former team member of the 1976-2003 Swedes football teams, which were coached by Ted Kessinger. Contributors included former players, coaches, staff members and family members.
"Each one who gave to this cause did so realizing that their gift represented a total team concept, not a focus on any one team or individual," said Kessinger, who worked with the Bethany Athletic Association to coordinate the project.
In addition, Dave Anderson, John Marshall, and Art and Annie Newcomer gifted wireless time clocks to accompany the scoreboard, which will be used to track periods of 25 and 40 seconds. "These individuals represent the character of athletics in
its truest sense in the way they lead their lives and their sincere concern for our youth," said Kessinger.
Contributors to the scoreboard project include Doug K. Anderson; Jeff and Julie Burke; Bill and Doris Carlson; Grant Collins; Jean Dennis, in memory of J.D. Dennis; Mark Eggers; Farmers State Bank, Lindsborg; Stein Hunter; Tom Junk; Ted and Nancy Kessinger; John Mack; Don McDaniel; Sean Patty; Brent Paul; Steve Paul; Jim and Elsie Pitts; Bud and Cheryl Rothgeb; Brian Seeliger; Jeff and Lisa Voth; Chris Wallace; Larry and Barbara Wallace; Steve Walter; and Jeff Warren in memory of Jake Warren.
Helping install the new scoreboard and clocks were employees of the City of Lindsborg and the Lindsborg Public Works Department; Jon Daniels, Bethany athletic director; Kelly Dauer and Norm Dauer of Dauer Welding company; Mike Chambers and Chris Anderson of Lindsborg Concrete Company; Art Newcomer; Warren Olson; and Greg and Aaron Powers of Powers Construction Company, Marquette. R.D. Rasmusson and John Gable of Swedish Painters donated painting services.
