The Bethany College men's soccer team kicked off their 2009 season this past weekend. The Swedes hosted an alumni scrimmage Saturday night to help them prepare for their upcoming first games.
The squad started off their season well with a 2-0 victory over the alumni team. "This was a good start for us," said head coach Jeff Kidd. "Now we know what all we need to work on as well."
Bethany has a young squad again this year, but is already showing improvement.
"A big thing I liked was we had a lot of hustle, and because we're so young, we are willing to work for each other," Kidd said. "At this point last year, we didn't have that."
Kidd hopes to see his squad continue to improve on the offensive side as they head into their first tournament this weekend.
"I would like to see a little more patience when we possess the ball," he said, "versus forcing it."
The Swedes hit the road and head to Illinois September 4-5 for the Greenville College tournament.
