Marvin Barnes, a junior transfer from Pensacola, Fla., was named Defensive Player of the Week for both the KCAC and the NAIA.
Barnes had seven solo tackes and two assisted tackles Saturday in the Swedes' win over University of Saint Mary. But the play of the game was Barnes' interception that turned into a 98-yard return for a touchdown with seconds left in the half.
The 6'1, 200 lb linebacker transferred to Bethany from Yuba Community College in Marysville, Calif. There he earned first team all-conference honors. Prior to Yuba, Barnes graduated from River Ridge High School in Lacey, Wash.
The Swedes beat USM 18-13 in the season opener.
