The Bethany College men's soccer team looked to extend their three-game winning streak as they hosted Mid America Christian University Tuesday afternoon and travelled to Oklahoma Saturday. Despite two losses, the Swedes are ready for conference play.
"MidAmerica Christian really controlled the possession against us," said head coach Jeff Kidd. "We defended well throughout the game, but we defended far too long."
After trailing MACU 2-1 going into halftime, neither team would score again as Bethany was outshot 22-9 for a 2-1 loss. Senior Emeka Obiagwu scored off an assist from freshman Johnny Nuthall for the lone Bethany goal.
"We had a tough time transitioning to the attack," Kidd said.
The Swedes then turned south and headed to Oklahoma Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon. "We came out flat, and they took advantage of that," said Kidd. We finally settled into the game, but it was too late."
Despite 21 shots on goal, Bethany suffered a 3-0 loss to OWU. "We were just forcing things paying from behind," Kidd said.
Bethany is now 4-4 overall. The squad opens their conference schedule with a trip to Southwestern College on Saturday, October 3 at 4 p.m.
"We don't play until Saturday, which will give us time to fix our mistakes and prepare for the next game," Kidd said. "We have been resilient so far this year, so I look for my boys to bounce back and give Southwestern our best shot."
