Recently ranked 22nd nationally in Golf World's annual College Preview issue, the Bethany College golf team hit the green this past week. The squad hosted their Bethany Fall Invitational in Salina on October 5.

Bethany grabbed their first tournament win of the fall as their number one team took the title, shooting 285 in round one and 288 in round 3. The Swedes finished with a 573, good for nine over, but well in front of Hastings College, who ended at 32 over.

Bethany's number two squad placed third in the event, ending 37 over after shooting 294 in round one and 307 in round two.

"Certainly I was pleased with our win," said head coach Jon Daniels. "I thought certain individuals could have played better and others have begun to play better."

Sophomore Jack Hiscock was crowned the tournament champion, shooting 68 in round one and 70 in round two. Senior Ian Ford tied for second with freshman Tyler Maydew. Ford shot a 73 in round one and a 71 in round two while Maydew tallied a round one 74 and 70 in round two. Freshman Chris McManus took fourth with a 71 in round one and 75 in round two while junior Brock Bullard tied for fifth after shooting a 75 and 72. Junior Adam Glover placed eighth with a 68 and 81, and senior Thomas Fernandes tied for 14th, shooting 75 and 77. Senior Leslie Bonvillain tied for 17th after a round one 73 and round two 80. Sophomore Ethan Miller tied for 29th after a 78 and 79, and junior Mark Bengtson tied for 34th with a 77 and 81.

The Swedes head west to Aurora, Colo. to compete in the Colorado School of Mines tournament October 12-13.

"Of the 15 teams in Colorado, almost all are NCAA Division I or II, and we beat many of them last year, thus they will be out to prove they are the best," Daniels said. "I know nine of them went on to play in their respective national championships. We have never played the course before and I am unsure until I see it what to expect. I know the effort will be there from our guys."
