Hoping to rebound after a loss to Southwestern in their first KCAC contest of 2009, the Bethany College women's soccer team hosted Ottawa Wednesday evening.
The Swedes struggled to stay afloat in the contest with Ottawa as their offensive attack proved too strong for the squad. Ottawa, currently first in the KCAC, defeated the Swedes in a blowout contest with a score of 10-0, outshooting the Bethany squad 40-3.
"It was just one of those games where it seemed like we couldn't do anything right," said head coach Steve Moore, "and every one of our players had their worst game of the year."
Bethany then turned and headed to Tabor College Saturday. "This game was about the total opposite," Moore said. "We played really well across the board; we just couldn't finish our chances."
Down 2-0 at half, the Swedes just couldn't find the net as they fell 3-0 to the Blue Jays, remaining winless in their 2009 KCAC schedule and giving Tabor their first conference W."
"We were also playing without two starters due to team violations," said Moore. "So to play like we did even without them was great, but bittersweet to think we could have won."
The squad is now 0-3 in the KCAC and 5-6-1 overall. The Swedes stay home all next week, hosting the University of St. Mary on Wednesday, October 17 and Sterling College Saturday, October 17, both at 5 p.m.
