With their first tournament win under their belt at their invitational in Salina at the beginning of the month, the Bethany College golf team loaded up and headed west to Colorado for the final tournament of the fall season.

The Swedes competed in Aurora, Colo. in a tournament hosted by the Colorado School of Mines.

"It was the most treacherous drive to any tournament I have ever been associated with," said head coach Jon Daniels. "The interstate was solid ice and I had to stop several times to clear the ice from the windshield."

Against several NCAA Division I and II teams, the Swedes placed eighth out of 12. "The golf course was a great experience, as was the tournament," Daniels said. "Hole 13 is the toughest hole I have ever seen at any course and I have played Sawgrass with the island green."

Freshman Jack Hiscock tied for ninth, shooting 75 in round one and 71 in round two. Junior Brock Bullard tied for 39th after an 81 and 74 performance while senior Leslie Bonvillain also tied for 39th, shooting 78 and 77. Freshman Tyler Maydew tied for 53rd with an 82 in round one and 79 in round two.

"We played poorly as a team the first day, although Jack Hiscock was a bright spot in the day," said Daniels. "The second day we shot decent as a team, but again Jack did very well and ended up ninth overall with many very good golfers at the tournament."

The event in Colorado was the Swedes' final fall tournament of the 2009 fall season.

"We did beat some Division I and II golf teams, but were very disappointed in our result," Daniels said. "We will be working hard to correct our faults before the spring season."
