On nothing short of a spectacular warm and sunny Saturday, the Bethany College men and women's cross country teams traveled to Friends University on Saturday to compete in the KCAC Championships.

The Swede women placed fourth at the event. "The girls improved from last place last year to fourth place this year," said head coach Aaron Davis.

Freshman Janeeka Montgomery, an all conference selection, placed tenth, narrowly missing a bid to nationals. "She was .88 seconds away from qualifying," Davis said. "She got beat right at the end."

Junior Kate Dibbern finished twelfth, earning her honorable mention all conference honors.

The Bethany men placed seventh at the Championships after not even having a team last year. "No one placed," said Davis, "but all five guys finished."

The Swedes are hanging on in hopes of a possible bid to nationals for two of their runners.

"We might qualify," Davis said. "It depends on if a team gets an at-large berth, and then they take that team out, so probably both Janeeka and Kate would get to go."
