Sophomore Rhys Pihl led the Swedes with 26 points in Thursdays win over #1 Sterling

The Bethany College women's basketball team returned to the court after a tough loss to Friends in their last contest. Hoping to change their luck, the squad faced Sterling College at home Thursday night.
 
The sharp-shooting Swedes hit their stride Thursday night, shooting 45% for the game and holding Sterling to just under 35%. Bethany walked into halftime with a 13-point lead and never looked back as they stunned the previously KCAC undefeated Warriors with an 82-67 Swede victory.
 

Sophomore Rhys Pihl put up a game-high 26 points, followed by junior Cathy Wade with 25. Freshman Emily Dwerlkotte tacked on 11 points on the night as junior Claire Cole scored nine. Wade snagged 11 rebounds in her double-double performance as R. Phl and Dwerlkotte each contributed seven rebounds. Dwerlkotte tallied five assists as senior Jade Pihl tacked on four.

The Swedes then hosted Bethel College Saturday evening.

Bethany struggled to slow the offensive attack of the Threshers, and the Swedes were down by ten at the half. The Swedes hit their offensive stride in the second half, but were unable to come back from the deficit as they lost 82-67.

Wade scored a game-high 18 points as R. Pihl added 16 points and J. Pihl tacked on ten. Wade grabbed nine rebounds, followed by R. Pihl with six. J. Pihl tallied three assists on the night while R. Pihl and Wade contributed two assists each. J. Pihl snuck three steals as Dwerlkotte had two steals in addition to nine points.

Bethany is now 4-8 in the KCAC, in sixth place, and 7-15 overall. The Swedes head to McPherson College on Thursday, February 4 at 6 p.m. before traveling to Ottawa University on Saturday, February 6 for a 5 p.m. match-up.
