The Bethany College women's basketball looked to get back on the winning track after a tough loss to Bethel. The Swedes hit the road Thursday night to take on McPherson College.

The Swedes came out hot in the first half, and walked into halftime with a 15-point lead. But the Bulldogs pulled within four part way through the second half. However, the Swedes finished the game strong and came out with a 75-62 "W."

"I was real pleased with the game on the road against McPherson," said head coach Jim Campion. "I thought we stepped up and played well defensively. We did a nice job defending their shooters. And then offensively, I thought we executed very well."

Sophomore Rhys Pihl scored a team-high 22 points. Junior Cathy Wade had a double-double performance on the night with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Junior Claire Cole and senior Amber Dunham each tallied ten points on the night.

Bethany finished off the week with a road trip to Ottawa University Saturday evening.

The Swedes controlled the pace much of the first half, and went into the break up by six. However, Ottawa's shooting heated up in the second half, and the game was tied down the stretch. However, thanks to a Braves 50-foot three-pointer at the buzzer, Ottawa defeated Bethany 76-74.

R. Pihl scored a game-high 18 points, followed by Wade with 17. Cole added 12 points as freshman Emily Dwerlkotte contributed ten. Wade snagged six rebounds as senior Amber Dunham grabbed five. Dwerlkotte, R. Pihl, and senior Jade Pihl each had four assists. Cole snuck one steal on the night.

"For the most part, we played pretty well," Campion said. "We didn't defend as well down the stretch and let them come back. The last second shot was kind of tough to deal with."

Bethany is now 5-9 in the KCAC, in sixth place, and 8-16 overall. They next face Tabor College at home on Thursday, February 11 at 6 p.m. before hosting rival Kansas Wesleyan University on senior night on Saturday, February 13 at 5 p.m.
