After a tough loss at the buzzer to Ottawa, the Bethany College women's basketball team was ready to get back on track as they hosted Tabor College Thursday night.
Bethany stayed in stride with the Blue Jays in the first half, and walked into halftime with a six-point lead. However, the Swedes saw their lead slip away in the second half and couldn't hang on as they fell 73-68 to Tabor.
Freshman Emily Dwerlkotte scored a team-high 16 points, followed by junior Cathy Wade and sophomore Rhy Pihl with 15 points each. Junior Claire Cole added 11 points as senior Jade Pihl tacked on nine. Cole grabbed nine rebounds as Wade contributed seven. Dwerlkotte tallied five assists on the night while J. Pihl had three. R. Pihl headed the defense with two steals.
The Swedes then faced Kansas Wesleyan University Saturday night in their last regular season home game of the season.
Bethany struggled to stay afloat against a strong Kansas Wesleyan squad and entered halftime down by 13. The Coyotes continued to hit their stride and never looked back as they handed the Swedes an 85-65 loss.
R. Pihl scored 18 points as Wade added 11. Cole snagged ten rebounds on the night while Dwerlkotte and freshman Nicole Felker tallied two assists each. J. Pihl tacked on two steals in the contest.
Bethany is now 5-10 in the KCAC, in sixth place, and 8-18 overall. The squad hits the road to Southwestern College on Thursday, February 18 before heading to the University of St. Mary on Saturday, February 20 in their last KCAC regular season contest. Tip offs are set for 6 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.
