The Bethany College baseball team continued their season this past week in hopes of grabbing their first "W" of 2010.

Bethany hosted Benedictine College on their home field Sunday night. The Bethany bats heated up as the Swedes finally hit their stride, shutting out Benedictine for a 7-0 win, their first of 2010.

"Our seniors set the tone by getting out of a tough jam on the mound and by running hard down the line to first," said head coach Jeremy Cantrell. "Ryan Mashinter threw a one hitter; what I was really pleased with was the first batter of the game got a double, and we held him at second. And our first run was scored because we really hustled down the line to first on a ground ball."

The Swedes then battled Hastings College Sunday afternoon. Bethany struggled to stay afloat against the Broncos as Hastings College defeated the Swedes 4-1.

"We failed to execute," Cantrell said. "Hastings had four two-strike hits, and that was all four of their runs. We didn't play bad, but we didn't play well enough to win."

The Swedes are now 1-7 overall. They hosted Morningside College on Monday, March 1. The Swedes next host Manhattan Christian on Wednesday, March 3 before hosting a four-game series against Concordia University on Saturday and Sunday, March 6-7. Doubleheaders begin at 12 p.m. both days.
