Spring is just around the corner. And the Bethany College men's golf team already has their goals in mind.
"I would hope to contend for the conference title and be nationally ranked," said head coach Jon Daniels, "and continue to the national championships."
The Swedes are coming off a conference title in 2009 after an overall record of 85-4 during the regular season. Returning from the 2009 squad are sophomores Jack Hiscock and Ethan Miller, juniors Mark Bengtson and Adam Glover, and seniors Leslie Bonvillain, Ian Ford, and Thomas Fernandez.
"I look to them for the leadership of the team and to continue our tradition," Daniels said.
Daniels has also added numerous impact incomers to help the Swedes in their expectations for 2010.
"The new guys are Chris McManus from England, Andries Steyn from South Africa, Adam Weishaar from Salina, and Tyler Maydew from Colorado," said Daniels.
With a conference championship under their belt, the Swedes are well aware of the work and preparation it takes to not only reach the top, but continue to the next level; a national tournament appearance.
"Our main focus is to get better with each week and work hard to achieve our goals for the year," Daniels said.
The Swedes begin their spring season by hosting the Swede Invitational March 8-9. Round one will be played at the Elks Country Club in Salina on Monday and round two will be played at Turkey Creek in McPherson on Tuesday. Both days have a shot gun start at 10 a.m.
