With a three-game winning streak under their belt, the Bethany College softball team looked to add more as they traveled to Oklahoma on Tuesday, March 16 for a double header with Southern Nazarene University.

The Swedes jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third before SNU hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third to take the lead. The Crimson Storm added two more runs in the fourth before Bethany scored in the fifth. However, SNU answered back to the Swedes with another run. Despite another Bethany score in the seventh, SNU was too much for the Swedes as Bethany fell 5-3.

Seniors Jacquelyn Hernandez and Emily Zimmerman each went 3-for-4 in the contest as senior Morgan Evans, sophomore Stephanie Tyler, and freshman Nicole Felker all added one hit each. Zimmerman totaled three RBIs in the game.

Tyler got the start for the Swedes, giving up 12 hits and four earned runs before freshman Allison Ruicker came in as relief.

Game two was all SNU as their bats caught fire in the first inning, jumping to a 5-0 lead. The Crimson Tide added two more runs in the fifth before Bethany mustered one run in the seventh. That was all for the Swedes as they lost 7-1.

Felker, Zimmerman, junior Britany Brady, and freshmen Miranda Mickelson, Brittany Lewis, and Ashley Nicolich had one hit each. Nicolich tallied the lone RBI for the Swedes.

Senior Becka Hileman got the start for the Swedes, giving up seven hits and seven earned runs.

The Swedes then headed west to NCAA Division II Fort Hays State University for a St. Patty's Day match-up.

FHSU jumped out to an early lead after a three-run home run in the first and four unearned runs in the second. After a leadoff triple, the Tigers scored again in the third before Bethany plated one run in the fifth. The Swedes could not add any more runs as they lost 8-1.

Evans, Zimmerman, Lewis, Brady, and freshman Brittany Mosqueda all had one hit apiece. Brady had the only RBI for the Swedes.

Tyler got the start for Bethany, giving up six hits and three earned runs before Ruicker came in as relief, giving up only two hits and zero runs.

Game two started out similar to game one as FHSU scored four runs in the first inning. The Tigers scored two more runs in the fifth before the Swedes crossed one run in the seventh. However, that was all for Bethany as they fell 6-1.

Hernandez, Zimmerman, junior Anita Espinoza, and freshman Lindsay Dougal totaled one hit each. Espinoza was the owner of the one Swede RBI.

Ruicker started for the Swedes, giving up four hits and four earned runs. Hileman came in as relief, giving up two earned runs off seven hits.

Bethany ended the week by competing in the Sterling College Tournament. The Swedes faced College of St. Mary in their first game Friday.

Bethany jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before adding another run in the second and two more in the fourth. The Swedes held St. Mary scoreless and went on to a 7-0 "W."

Evans had two hits on the day as Felker had one. Lewis tallied four RBIs in the game as Mickelson added one.

The remainder of the tournament was canceled due to inclement weather.

The Swedes are now 7-10 overall. They kick off their conference schedule with a trip to Leavenworth to take on the University of St. Mary on Wednesday, March 24.

"From here on out, as we start conference, is when we need to start playing good softball and come together as a team," said head coach Janice Esses.
