Kendall Banning, Longmont, Colo., has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Bethany College for the 2007-2008 academic year. He will transfer to Bethany from Adams State College.
"We are pleased to have Kendall Banning transfer to Bethany College and become a part of Bethany Basketball. Kendall is a very tough, hard nosed, smart and skilled player who possesses great athletic ability so he will be a welcomed addition to our guard play," said coach Clair Oleen.
Banning is a 6'1", 200 lb. guard from Silver Creek High School in Longmont. There he was a McDonald's All-American honorable mention and Daily Times Call Player of the Year, both in 2006.
Also in 2006 Banning was the Silver Creek Raptor of the Year, Silver Creek Male Athlete of the Year and PE Student of the Year. He has earned all-state, all-conference and all-city honors as a high school athlete. In 2002 and 2003 Banning was named Biology Student of the Year.
Banning is the son of Angie Banning and Robert Banning. He has a 3.98 GPA and plans to study pre-medicine at Bethany.
Joseph Dickinson, Phoenix, Ariz., has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Bethany College for the 2007, 2008 academic year.
"Joey is a quality young man with great basketball potential," said head coach Clair Oleen. He added, "Joey was a key component of the "revolution" that new coach Scott Lovely brought to Arcadia High School."
Dickinson was a 6'5", 160 lb. power-forward at Arcadia High School in Phoenix. He averaged 11.9 ppg, had 158 total rebounds and 54 assists. Dickinson shot 45.4 percent from the field and 63.6 percent from the line. He earned first-team all-region honors. He also was a wide receiver on the Arcadia High football team two years, earning second-team all-region honors.
Dickinson is the son of Bill and Lisa Dickinson. At Bethany he plans to study athletic training.
Justin Holcom, Lindsborg, Kan., has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Bethany College for the 2007-2008 academic year.
Holcom played basketball for the Smoky Valley Vikings for four years, earning all-state and all-league honors. He also was a McDonald’s All-American nominee and was tamed to the Salina Invitational Tournament all-tournament team three years.
Holcom, a 6’2” forward, averaged 17 ppg. and 10.3 rebounds. He shot 56 percent from the field and 72 percent from the line.
“We are very pleased to have Justin Holcom choose to continue his education at Bethany College and join the Bethany basketball program,” said Bethany head coach Clair Oleen.
Oleen said Holcom is a tremendous role model for kids and young people in the Smoky Valley community.
“It is exciting and special that the community will be able to follow Justin closely and watch him play here at Bethany College in Hahn Gymnasium,” Oleen added.
Oleen said he is grateful to the many members of the Lindsborg community who encouraged Justin to don the blue and gold and who will continue to support him over the next four years.
Holcom is the son of Ted and Jaylene Holcom. He has a 3.3 high school GPA. As a Viking Holcom also play football and participated in track and field.
Quenton Jennings, Anchorage, Alaska, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at
Bethany College for the 2007-2008 academic year.
"We are pleased to have Quenton Jennings choose to join Bethany College and Bethany basketball. Quenton is a quick, intelligent point guard who will be a fine addition to the team. Bob Gottlieb, a former assistant coach to Coach Tex Winter, gets an assist for putting us in contact with the Jennings in Alaska," said coach Clair Oleen.
Jennnings was a three-year starting point guard at Bartlett High School in Anchorage. He averaged 12.5 ppg., 3 rebounds and 5.2 assists. He shot 55 percent from the field, 85 percent from the line and 40 percent from the three-point line. Jennings also was a member of the football and track & field teams.
Jennings is the son of Lillie Jennings and William Jennings. At Bethany he plans to study communications.
