The Bethany College golf team continued their season March 27-28 as they competed in the Bethel Spring Invitational Saturday and Sunday.
The Swedes were tied for first after day one, shooting a 308. Bethany shot a 321 on day two, placing third in the tournament at 629, +57.
"While the weather was very poor, I was proud of the golfers as I heard no one complain about the weather, and on the first day under 30 degrees, a 25 mile per hour wind and constant rain, handled the conditions and played well and thus had the lead," said head coach and Bethany College athletic director Jon Daniels. "On the second day, much like the first but without the rain, we played very poorly and came in third. We need to learn to finish a tournament and not have a good round followed by a very poor round."
Junior Brock Bullard tied for fifth, shooting a 77 on both day one and two, finishing 11 over at 154. Freshman Chris McManus tied for 13th after shooting 77 on day one and 81 day two, ending +15 at 158. Freshman Tyler Maydew tied for first, shooting a 78 and 81. Maydew ended +16 at 159. Sophomore Jack Hiscock tied for 26th after shooting a 161, a +18. Hiscock scored 76 on day one and 85 on day two. Senior Leslie Bonvillain tied for 32nd after shooting a 78 and 84, ending +19 at 162. Sophomore Ethan Miller and senior Thomas Fernandes both tied for 35th, ending +21 at 164. Miller shot an 80 and 84 while Fernandes shot 85 and 79. Junior Adam Glover and freshman Andries Steyn tied for 48th, shooting a 167, a +24. Glover shot an 80 and 87 while Steyn shot a 75 and 92. Junior Mark Bengtson tied for 72nd, shooting an 82 on day one and 90 on day two, totaling a 172, a +29.
The Swedes next travel to Duncanville, Texas on April 5-6 to compete in the Northwood Invite at Thorntree Country Club.
